Interoperative Laboratories and Studios
Media Factory is, among many things, a network of laboratories, studios and other facilities. The Lab and Studio network of Media Factory aims at strengthening strategic synergies between these units, by increasing their interoperability through shared resources and mutual coordination, and establishing new joint projects.
In 2009, Media Factory invested in state of the art media research equipment, such as a new eye-tracking device, facilities for photographic and fine-art printing, and advanced devices for psycho-fysiological measurements. The current focus is on initiating new research and education activities based on these acquisitions.
Labs and studios have an active role in implementing Media Factory’s “hands on with mind on” strategy in education. The courses arranged by Media Factory typically incorporate workshops and assignments. Students are encouraged to take take their ideas further through tangible productions such as study projects, artistic productions, product demos, and prototypes.
Media Factory is also a producer of audiovisual productions and events for Aalto University and utilises for this purpose the studio facilities of Media Centre Lume.
The Lab and Studio network currently consists of the following institutions and units:
Media Centre Lume (Taik)
Media Lab Helsinki (Taik)
PrintLab (Taik)
Department of Media Technology (TKK)
Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT)
Media Concept Laboratory (TaiK)
Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research, CKIR (HSE)
