New Media Services
Starting in late 2009 the Media Factory has begun to develop a service for streaming media within Aalto University. The service is being developed in collaboration with the Media Centre LUME. Basically the concept is to allow for the live streaming of special events (seminars, conferences, workshops, guest lectures, presentations) which deal specifically with the media and media-related themes. The Media Factory also attempts to make the recordings available, as archived recordings, after the events in order to allow for maximum exploitation of the recordings within educational and research operations within Aalto.
Database of Magazine Journalism Studies – Aikakauslehtijournalismin tutkimuksen tietokanta
The database of magazine journalism studies is a reference database where basic information on magazine research and related literature is collected. The main focus is on Finnish research, but some foreign references have been included as well. The majority of the references are dissertations from Finnish universities and polytechnics.
The location and availability of the materials is not included in the database. The availability can be inquired from the databases of each university.
Articles, books, dissertation and other research and literature, that are related to or skirt the subject of magazines are included in the database. Research papers that use magazines as research material but might not focus on magazines are also included. The question, what is a magazine research and what isn’t, has been interpreted liberally. As a rule of thumb we have included papers where the source material is labeled as magazines.
The database is free for all. It is built especially for MA and doctoral students. The database project is funded by the Finnish Cultural Fund and led by professor Maija Töyry. The database will be updated yearly. We would be happy to accept any information on new research or materials not yet included in the database. Please send email to (a-l-tutkimus [at] taik.fi ).
