3D Animation Minor Subject Program
A new minor subject program will begin next fall in the Department of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design at the Aalto School of Art and Design. All Aalto students are eligible to apply.
In the program the students learn how to create a 3D computer animated short film and work with professionals of the different areas of the production (sound, designer, composer, editor).
Workload: 25 ECTS
Accepted students: max 15
The minor subject is built of five different parts:
1) Two 5-day intensive periods, where different aspects of the animation process are presented and discussed by different teachers and visitors.
The first one starts the whole process and deals with subjects like general characteristics of animation, idea, development, character design, colour and graphic design, script etc. 30.8. – 3.9.2010
The second one is in the beginning of January and it deals with the aspects of the actual production, 10.-14.1.2011.
2) Continuous development of the student’s script with teacher. This lasts through the fall term. The script is finished by the end of the year.
3) Introduction to 3D, a 5-day course which teaches the different stages of creating a 3D-animation film. This gives the student an idea of everything that needs to be done, 6. – 10.9.2010.
4) The backbone of the minor study is the all-year 3D Animation course where students learn to build and animate simple 3D-characters. From 13 September every Monday.
5) The co-operation with sound designer, composer and editor. This takes place in the spring term.
