Everything is Going to Be Fine? – perspectives on data politics and visualisation

Talk by Marek Tuszynski, Tactical Technology Collective
Friday, May 8 15-17, Aalto Media Factory

How to turn information into action and create visualisations for advocacy purposes? What can you do to protect yourself from your digital shadow? What are the opportunities and hindrances of doing activism in a time of a shrinking universe, data politics and the banalisation of self?

These are some of the questions discussed by Marek Tuszynski in an interactive talk presenting the outstanding work of Tactical Technology Collective, including current projects such as Exposing the Invisible and Me and my Shadow.

The lecture will be inspirational to graphic designers, open data advocates, investigative journalists as well as communities and NGOs and grassroots groups working to get their message through.

Tactical Tech is a non-profit organisation, working since 2003 to advance the use of information and digital technologies by advocates and activists worldwide. Based in Berlin, we work with an international network of partners and collaborators to help rights, accountability and transparency advocates and the communities they work with to use information and digital technologies effectively in their work.

Co-founder of Tactical Tech, Marek Tuszynski is a restless producer of various creative and social interventions that span across various media: radio, television and internet; as well as those that utilise non-technical formats, such as workshops, book sprints and endless conversations. Activism, innovation and creativity are the major driving forces in his work, as much as the importance of marginalised voices, opinions and world views.
