Photographs by Jee Wee Ong
I’ve never had any formal education in photography, and my photos are just the result of my interest in photography as a hobby. I’ve been interested in photography ever since my uncle showed me how to use a film camera when I was 13 years old, and ever since then, I’ve held a camera in my hand wherever I go.
I am currently in Finland on exchange from Melbourne, Australia, and this is my first time in Europe, so being in a completely different environment has allowed me to hone my skills even more, providing me with new opportunities to photograph other places around the world. I’ve taken a wide variety of photographs in the past, ranging from still life and architecture, to wedding portraiture, but I’ve found a particular interest in photographing the natural world. I love travelling, and I love nature, so naturally, they become a big part of any photograph I take. Nature provides me with the opportunity to immerse myself in the beauty of her landscape, and it is always my goal to capture this beauty as a moment in time. Whether it’d be a single maple leaf, or an ocean vista, being able to be in the moment while taking the photograph allows me to appreciate all that is in front of me.
My father always said to me: “you can only be in one place at one time, but photography is about being in the right place at the right time”.
