Exploring stories in realtime art

Do you remember the first time you wanted to be a grandmother, walking slowly through a graveyard? Or how exciting it was running through a forest in your red riding hood, hoping and fearing of meeting the wolf?

Neither did I before I got to know the wonderful and thought provoking games of Tale of Tales. Now the creators of these and many other wonderful artistic games are here!

But let the masters themselves tell a bit about their lecture and who they actually are:

This year we are celebrating 10 years of making videogames. In all that time we have yet to make a videogame which tells a linear narrative. We have had an ambiguous relationship with story to say the least, but stories have always fascinated us. We made a career of making games that explore stories without actually telling them. We will share the why and how of our story design decisions. And how we plan to handle the challenge of our first truly narrative game, titled: Sunset.

Bio: Auriea Harvey (1971, USA) & Michaƫl Samyn (1968, Belgium) founded independent development studio Tale of Tales in 2002 in Ghent, Belgium for the purpose of exploring the artistic potential of videogames. Since then, they have released seven titles for desktop and handheld devices, each of which was met with controversy and discussion because of their highly innovative nature. In a previous life, they were net.artists and web designers under the name of Entropy8Zuper!
