Aalto Media Factory would like to invite you to meet artist-curator-writer Micah Silver, the first visiting artist in a new programme launched by Aalto FabLab.
During his residency at Aalto, Silver is working on a public art installation called One of Many Possible Irreonciliations Between the Finite and the Infinite which is to be situated at Madison Square Park, New York in 2017. The work will use air as a time-based compositional material to re-shape the airflow regime of the Park.
As a graduatae of both MIT and Wesleyan University, Silver has began experimenting with air as a medium having finished a long phase working primarily with audio.
The work will take a rigorous observational/quantitative approach to visualizing the airflows in the park over the period of a year. From the evaluation of these observations, Silver will fabricate a sequence of physical additions to the park’s trees and landscaping that will replace the inherent, natural change introduced as over a million leaves fall from the many mature trees in winter.
At the FabLab, Silver will produce prototypes for various aspects of the work, develop the basis for production and conduct acoustic and airflow testing using Schlieren photography.
We will start the event at 14:30 with a half an hour presentation, followed by Q&A with mulled wine and festive snacks.
Date: Friday, Dec 4th at 14:30-16:30, place: Aalto Media Factory Auditorium, Hämeentie 135 A (3rd floor), Arabia
